End of Semester Blog

Strengths: I would say my strengths would be working well with others because I worked with Alysa this whole soccer season fliming and editing videos. I also say I would have good project management skills because I post my videos and update my websites on time. I am also responsible because I check back in my equipment and take of the equipment. Weaknesses: I would say my voice overs and my voice in general on camera needs to have more excitement and I should add facial expressions when reading off the teleprompter so I can look more like I want to be there. I also need to work on editing videos with better b-role and transitions. My plan to improve would be to keep up my project management skills, but also to add more enthusiasm to my voice and smile on camera so I look more excited. I also plan to spend more time editing videos so I am not as rushed.

I watched a video about a brother who saves his little brother from chocking. I liked how the anchors asked simple questions that could be understood by the little boy and I also liked how they had an emergency response worker on the show because that is how the little boy learned how to save someone from chocking. They used a fake baby to demonstrate how to save someone from chocking and I liked that because you could see a visual representation of how the little boy learned it. I think it would've been better if the mom explained a little more about what happened because it was hard to understand what he was saying at some points. I will try and use visual references so that the audience can have a visual idea of what is going on. I will also keep in mind to write my questions to the level of the person I am interviewing (example: if I am interviewing someone younger make my questions simpler, than if someone who is older).

I watched Ellen interview Jennifer Hudson on her being Christmas' biggest fan. I liked how Ellen asked thoughtful questions because she got more than just one answer. Also her question choice was good because it led to a different topic, talking about Hudson being a judge on The Voice.  Usually Ellen interacts more with audience but she didn't do to too much this time. I personally feel that if she was to include the audience more it could have added more excitement.  I will take away the thoughtful questions asked because I saw how good questions can lead to multiple responses. I will try and incorporate more detailed questions in my further interviews to get better answers.

They story I watched was a little boy who received a special Christmas,  It all started when a little boy took his moms phone and posted a video of himself on his moms Facebook. He then later appeared on Ellen and was interviewed by  Ryan Seacrest and Kris Jenner. He shocked people with his knowledge on dinosaurs.   The anchors brought his toys on the show so he could show them what he knows. The anchors gave them their full attention and that to me made watching this story better. A lot of background information was given as the anchors asked him the 5 W's.  I personally feel they did a good job with the interview. I will take the skill of really interacting and engaging with people for further interviews. Also, adding more background information to set the scene.

I read about  Deshaun Watson's injury . I liked how the reporter was quick the point, so I knew right away that DeshaunWatson tore his ACL. I also liked how he incorporated a tweet to break up some of the text. I think the reporter could have added a little more information in the first paragraph like telling us how he tore it and if he would be out for the entire season. I will take away from this article how the writer incorporated tweets into the article breakup the text. I also will try to give the information right off the bat so the reader knows what the article is about right away.

I watched highlights of the Dodgers vs. Astros game and read a recap about the stolen base for a free taco. I like how the reporter added some sense of humor to the article by saying how it was an exciting game for many reasons, the main being the free taco. I also liked the highlights because the reporter was very enthusiastic and kept me interested. I think that the reporter in the article could have added a reason for why the game was so exciting. He said the game last night was exciting for many reasons, but then talked about the free taco instead of giving an example of why the game was so exciting (eg extra innings, multiple home runs). From this I will take away the excitement in the reporters voice and use it when anchor on ONW Now next time and try and use my sense of humor also. Taco Bell Article Game 2 Highlights

Weekly Blog 9/8/17

I watched Deshaun Watson's interview after the Texans Browns game Sunday afternoon. The reporter did a good job of asking well written questions, so the reporter had more than a two word answer. He also did a goof job of incorporating stats into the questions he asked. I think the reporter could have asked a few more questions, but instead of making them lengthy like the other ones, he could have shortened them up to get a few ore answers. From watching this interview I will take away the detailed questions he asked so he can get the most out of his interview. I will also try and add more stats to make the interview sound more professional.

Weekly Blog 10/3/17

I read an article about the  Las Vegas Shooting  and the reporter did a good job of introducing the topic and giving the stats right away. The reporter also did a good job of throwing in the fact that it is was the "deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history."  I think they could have added more pictures so we would have an idea of what the atmosphere was like, and what the hotel looked like. Seeing more visuals would have helped create a better picture of what was actually happening at the time. From reading this I will remember to add more pictures to my work and make sure to add important facts that can relate to the event taking place.

Weekly Blog 9/22/17

In this article, the reporter did a good job about knowing his stats and using hand motions to add excitement to what he was saying. I think the could have done better addressing the "who" "what" "where" "when" "why" because he never really addressed who he was talking about. Also, the big topic was how is Mason Rudolph going to hold up against TCU and he never told us when the game would be. I think it would have been better if he told us when this big match up would be taking place. In the future I will remember to add hand motions to add more excitement to what I am saying. I will shorten the important stats so I can speak the important news faster. OSU Cowboys Article

Weekly Blog 9/15/17

The reporter did a good job of stating the “who” “what” “where” “when” and “why” in the first sentence. Without having to have any background knowledge, I knew within the first sentence that it was talking about Ezekiel Elliott's suspension for his domestic violence act.  I think the reporter could have added a little more detail about how many games he was originally suspended for and expand a little on the domestic violence act. Who was it? A child or a woman? We don’t know from this article. We are able to figure this out by reading different articles, but I think the article would be better if we had an idea of who it was, especially if we haven’t heard about this case. I will take from the article that I should get to the point fast, answering the five W’s right of the bat so that the reader knows what I’m talking about. I will also be sure to add extra detail to the story if it is needed to help the reader better understand the paragraph. Click the link bel...

End of year- Video

Collaboration take away  Unlike animation, in video you have to collaborate on every project. We didn't always get to chose our groups so we had to learn to get along with others that we may not work with all the time. It was important to collaborate on ideas about story boarding and location. Being in e-Comm has taught me the skill of being able to talk and collaborate with people who don't have the same interest as me.  Communication take away In video, I learned how to communicate with my group about what scenes we would film and when we would film them. It was important to communicate during projects, because sometimes you underestimate how long a project will take and you realize you won't be able to film it all in school, so you have to communicate and work out a time outside of school that will work for everyone. Being able to communicate with others has helped meet due dates and has also made the project run smoother.  Technology take away At ...

End of year reflection- Animation

Technology take away At the beginning of this yer, I wasn't the best at animation. I would get frustrated because it seemed like everybody but me knew what to do and how to do it. I didn't understand the programs and would easily get frustrated. Since then, I have gotten a lot better at animation, not saying I'm amazing, but Im certainly better than when I started. What changed is that I started to take notes when my teacher was talking and I read the online tutorials closer. I would also look for video tutorials online to help me. Taking notes really helped me in the future because a lot of things we worked on in previous projects, we applied to later projects. I have learned how to render on both Maya and After Effect, how to create an explosion with mattes, how to bevel and emboss, add textures to objects to make them look realistic, and the most important: how connect to the server :) and many more. Collaboration take away In animation, we only really had one g...

Personal Blog Post- Animation

Fire pit explosion  For this project we were to take the skills we learned in the previous project to create an explosion of our own. I picked to do a fire pit explosion. We had to add all the SFX effects that we added last week, which were smoke, fire, the explosion, dust, smoke, and debris. First, I picked all the elements I wanted to put in my explosion. Then, I resized them so they would fit into the fire pit. I set key frames, so after the fire exploded the debris would follow later. I did this because during an explosion it doesn't all happen at once. You have the explosion, the fire, the debris, then the smoke. I learned how to use matte to make the edges not look so harsh and how to set key frames accordingly. I would keep the order in which everything exploded. Next time I would try and add more "glow" in the background to make it look more realistic. In general I liked how this project turned and I also liked the process of putting this project together.    ...

Professional Project Review- Animation

The scope of the movie Despicable Me is about a man who is a super villain and wants to steal the moon, but his plans go sideways when he adopts three little girls he now has to take care of. An element from the movie that I would use in my work would be the use of color. Despicable Me had all kinds of different colors, from yellow minions to pink unicorns. An element used in this movie that I have learned is the walk cycle. I do not think this movie needs to be critiqued or improved because it is a good movie with a cute story line.

Professional Article Review- Animation

This professional article gives you detail about how to set key frames , move objects, render, and save. I didn’t see an example of any counter arguments because he just uses detailed explanations on how to render, save, move objects, and set key frames . A strength he has would be explaining very clearly on how to use After Effects. A weakness could be not showing us how to start the project. Although he is good at explaining, it would be helpful if he gave us a little more information at the start. The author just wants us to have fun with the project. My critique would be not having enough information about how to start the project. https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/tutorials.html

Technical Tutorial- Animation

How to render in After Effects  First, go to file, export, and "add to render queue." Next, make sure everything looks correct and on the right towards the bottom, click the blue "render" button. That's it. Depending how long/short your video is it will effect how fast it renders out.

Plausible Impossible

In this scene, Mickey walks right through a mirror and we know that in real life it is physically impossible to be able to walk through a mirror, but since Mickey wants to get to the other side, nothing is stopping him from walking through the mirror. In this scene, after Mickey walks through the mirror he lands on a foot rest, which is a dog. In real life we know that there is no such thing as a barking dog foot rest, but in Mickey's world that he walks through there is barking dog foot rests. In this scene, Mickey ate a nut and all of the sudden he started growing larger and larger, until then he shrunk. In real life eating a nut doesn't make you grow huge and then shrink, but in this different world that he is in the nuts he eats are able to do this. In this scene, after the king sees Mickey dancing with his wife, he gets upset and steals the bike to ride down and fight Mickey. This is not possible. It is not possible for a card to have feelings ...

Movie Trailer

The Scope  For this project we were to work in groups of 3-4 to re-create a movie trailer based of a a school type movie. My group chose Napoleon Dynamite. We took screen shots of each scene and printed them out. We then typed up the script and planned out our shooting and editing dates on our calendar. What Worked Well  I really liked the group I was in because we were all hard working and we kept on schedule the whole time. We shot most of the video in three class periods, and one extra trip made after school. The editing worked smoothly, and we had color corrector to the shots we took and one talented member in my group made the animated lockers, which he put on the server to share with me and another classmate.  What I Would Change  Next time, I would turn the music down in the background, because it was a little overpowering and turn up the voices of our actors. I would also try and dress/ bring props to mirror the actors clothing and make my tran...

Music Video

The scope of the project was to create a video with an emitional feel about break ups. The story of a break up was told and how Adele was now "rolling in the deep" because who she thought would always have her back and stay wit her left. It was told by a dramatic video shot with her throwing plates at a wall. An element from this video that I would apply to my work is the different scene and costume changes. One element that is in this work that I have already learned is how to pan. I think the creator did a good job of changing the scenes and making them interesting. Since it was a professional video I don't think any improvements could be made, but if there was one probably adding more colors to the video even though it was supposed to be more of a "sad" video. I'm excited to take ideas out of this video to put in my video, and will use those skills in the future. Adele Video
